Halloween is coming up and a lot of people are getting their house prepped for those Halloween festivities! Halloween is a great holiday because you can really get creative with your decorations. You can create a haunted house or apartment feel or you can create a living tomb theme throughout your house – anything goes!

A great pre-party planning tip is to get your house cleaned and prepped prior to the decorating. This will make getting the decorations down and the house clean again. A quick sweep through the house with the vacuum will make the decorating and tearing down much easier.

Putting away fragile or valuable items can also be done while cleaning up the house – this will give you more space to set up decorations and keep your mind at ease for all those vampires, monsters, and witches who will be roaming around. Clearing out the fireplace mantle for more places to set up decor will also be a fun and easy way to add to the festivities.

Summertime has been known to be one the best seasons for looking for a new home. This is because the kids are out of school, most people are able to get some time off from work, and there is not the stress of the holidays that comes with the fall and winter seasons – and besides, who enjoys moving when it is snowing and raining outside?

Summer means more sunshine, more time off, and a great time of year to move before the kiddies have to go back to school – or it gives a parent time to enroll the kiddies into a new school. So when you are looking for a home in the summertime, your vision may be set on pools and a huge backyard so that you can start enjoying the summertime weather right after the boxes have been unpacked.

While that is all fine, remember that as soon as fall and winter set in, you may be considering other household amenities that you may have been considering over the summer. For instance, if the winters are known to be really cold, then you might have considered that home with the indoor fireplace – rather than the outside fireplace when the temperature starts to drop. A pool may be a really fun accessory to a new home during the hot summer months, but how will you feel about the clean-up chores during the colder months?

If you are considering a home purchase this summer, just remember to take into consider all the advantages and disadvantages of the home all year round and not just during the warmer months.

The Weather Outside is Frightful

It is nearing the end of May and I am looking out my window expecting to see sunshine, birds, and blooming flowers. Instead I see overcast clouds, frightening winds, and not a bird in sight. Let’s just say the weather here in the Golden State has been not so golden. I’ve almost put away all of my winter clothes, but now I am glad that I haven’t.

In fact, it’s getting to chilly where I live that I am considering starting up a roaring fire in my fireplace so that I can warm up a bit. During the winter, there was much fireplace activity – and rightly so, it was cold! But now it’s Springtime and I would be the last person to think that a roaring fire would be a scene fit for spring, but according to the forecast it may just be! Typically I like to put away my fireplace tools when I am not using them because it gives me more space around the fireplace – which is the main focal point of my living room, but this year I will not be so quick to put my fireplace tools away because it almost seems like Old Man Winter is still kicking…
